Crowd tag This is kinda a cool little site! TagCrowd scans your website for the words you use most frequently. Kind of fun! Pictured are the 65 words I've used the most.

My First Blogging Award?!?

Premio+arte+y+pico My blogging friend Courtney just nominated my blog for the Arte Y Pico Award!?! Here is what she said, "The next Arte Y Pico Award goes to Sandy. She is a really fun youth worker and I steal a lot of ideas for games for youth group from her - even though they sometimes get shot down (ahhhm squid bowling)!"  So I'm supposed to nominate 5 blogs because I'm not supposed to hold onto this award!  I'm going to have to get back to the nominations later this week!  I have to say how honored I am to have a trophy like this on my cybershelf!

High School Leaders Rocked Hume, San Diego

IMG_3009This fantastic group of high school leaders accompanied our high school students to summer camp at Hume Lake, San Diego. You might think, summer camp in San Diego, that sounds like a vacation! Trust me, going to camp with 30 high school students is no vacation! Fun yes, vacation no! These adults invest a lot of time into our students over the week through play, prayer, dodgeball, mohawks, deep conversations and food. Many of them take a weeks vacation with or without pay to hang and develop relationships with our high school students! So when you see them in the halls, make sure to thank them! Thanks for all your hard work and sleepless nights Ben, Kristin, Darcie, Sarah, Justin, Anthony, Jon, and Victor! You all are awesome!

Happy 4th of July

IMG_1904 Happy 4th of July!  I'm driving one of the vans of high school students home from summer camp. Hope to make it from San Diego to Foster City in time for some fireworks! Here is a pic I took from last years Foster City show.

Powerful Night

IMG_3056 I got the opportunity to fly down to San Diego to hang with the high school kids at their summer camp and then drive them home.  I experienced the last night of camp with the last chapel and then a sharing time at the Pantheon.  It was powerful to hear what God had done in a lot of students lives as well as in the lives of our own students.  I don't think I've ever been to a Hume sharing time where it lasted so long.  Not that it was too long, but so many students shared!  Awesome night.

High School Students @ Hume San Diego

6a00e5517be9e1883300e55384062c8833-800wi Our high school director and volunteer staff have been keeping the high school blog updated with their adventures of high school summer camp. Spirit day was yesterday and our high school guys got into spirit with pink mohawks! I think what I love about this picture is some of our guys really do have mohawks and some of our guys have a pink stripe down their head for a "fo-hawk." The other thing I love about this picture is our guys doing something together and bonding!

Worship Wars and Styles

Lowrey_organ As someone who has grown up in the church I've seen all kinds of worship styles.  I watched the church I grew up in move from and organ and piano to a full worship band, with God forbid; drums and electric guitars! Needless to say I remember hearing the scuttle-butt about our worship pastor and the music selections.  As an adult, I am on the worship team who plans the worship services and some things will never change. People always have something to complain about when it comes to music in the church.  Dan Kimball has a great blog post about the Organ!  Give it a read, it puts things into perspective!

Frisbee Golf Riot

IMG_2927 This summer we have turned up the heat on our jr. high ministry.  In the past we have slowed things down but this summer I felt we needed to do some more activities than we would normally do in the summer.  One thing I wanted to accomplish was provide a weekly activity that didn't cost anything. Some creative planning has gone into this summer and we came up with some new activities that we haven't done before. Trying that many new events is always a risk because you aren't sure if students will go for it.  Frisbee Golf was one of those events!  When I was planning this event I wasn't even sure if we had any frisbee golf courses in the bay area.  Much to my surprise, we do!  Needless to say, we had an adventurous group of Jr. Highers go with us and we golfed it up through the forest and missed the creek all afternoon.  Fun day and I would do that event again!  Check our our day here!
