Multi-Site Conference Day 2

Dsc02785I've never been to a conference where the first session didn't start until 1 pm! Got to love that! This morning our whole staff headed over to a friend of Rob's beach home. It was an absolutely beautiful morning! Then it was off to the conference and watching the different venues at North Coast Church. I was off to the different student minitry venues. I think what struck me the most was that these kids as well as their parents all brought their Bibles to church. It's like pulling teeth to get our kids to bring their Bibles. I hung out with the high school venue and the majority of the 80 kids that came, walked in with a Bible. It was really cool to see how a youth staff of about 50-60 paid staff operate. I learned a lot tonight and I'm excited to think and pray through what might work for us at CPC. By the way, the pic is from the deck of the house we were at this morning!

San Diego

Edgesign_2Our whole pastoral team is in San Diego this weekend for a multi-site conference at North Coast Church. My day started at 3:30 am! The only time I get up that early is to make a one day trip to tahoe to ski! We all got to the airport at about 5:30 to find out the church van did not fit in the airport parking structure! So we drove around for a while and ended up parking over in the international lot! We got to San Diego and then drove north to Vista, Ca. and made it to the church 10 minutes before the conference started. It was a very loooonnnngggg day, but some good stuff learned and a lot of discussion about what God has planned for the future of CPC and the Peninsula!

My Ode to George

N56900506_31060817_9630So Wednesday was one of the worst days I've had for a while mostly due to the news that my elder for all of my years at CPC has to leave the board due to a job change. I knew this might by coming, but I was praying it wouldn't. I'm such a baby about saying "good-byes", so I tried to hold it together on the phone as I heard the news. So George, I want to thank you so much for all of your support the last 8 years. I remember the first time I met you with the Jr. High staff and search committee. You have meant more to me than you might know. I want to thank you for helping me trust an elder board again. I want to thank you for your honesty and integrity, for your undying support even with all my wacky ideas and proposals! Thanks for helping me find strength and courage to do the hard things, when I didn't think I could. Thanks for always holding true to the love of God's Word and the Gospel. Thanks for asking the hard questions. Thanks for listening to me vent out of frustration. Thanks for sharing your fabulous kids and encouraging them to be involved in Student Ministries. Thanks for your committment to Christ, the Church and to Student Ministries. (Do you realize we've only missed 2 meetings in the last 8 years?) Thanks for sharing your gift of wisdom. You've been a fabulous shepherd and even though I don't want to see you go, I know God will use this new adventure for His good. George, thanks seems so trite, but you are loved, respected and appreciated more than you will know.

Batwoman

Retreat_2007_pictures_001_5So while at the all church retreat at Mt. Hermon this past weekend our team walked into the room we were supposed to use and found a bat hanging upside down on the fire screen covering the fire place. At first we thought it was a fake bat, but after poking it, we realized it was a real bat! I think he got smoked out in the fireplace. Of course the Jr. High Boys wanted to run around with it, toss it, tease the girls with it and then burn it. But we left the bat hanging in the fireplace peacefully. So Saturday morning I got to our room early, it was cold and rainy so I thought I would start a fire in the fire place. So I opened the screen, poked my head in the fire place to see if the flume was open. As I came out of the fire place, all of the sudden my ponytail sure felt heavy and I realized that I had a dead bat hanging in my ponytail! Now I don't scream, but I ran around that room screaming, shaking my head back and forth trying to get this dead bat out of my ponytail! Eventually the bat came loose from my ponytail and the bat went flying across the room and landed back in the fireplace! Totally gross!

Dancing With the Stars

DancetrophyThe new season of Dancing with the Stars started last night! This is one of my favorite shows! Growing up in a family of dancers and sitting and watching my parents and grandparents dance I just love the fact this show has taken off! After watching the ladies dance last night and the men tonight. I'm thinking it might be Jane, Helio, Sabrina and Albert in the final four.

A Great Weekend

Img_9067We had a great weekend at the All-Church Retreat. Lots of fun. The best was being able to lead worship for the Sunday morning service. It was a crazy morning but lots of fun! Kudos to Ben, Darc, Eric and Colin! You guys rock! I wish I had a picture of the morning. After worship we took the kids hiking through Mt. Hermon and then off to Mountain Roasting for some yummy hot chocolate!
