Predator

Ist2_3384887_man_and_his_hat
This post is for my youth ministry blogger friends who read this blog. Courtney over in Austin, TX wants to know how to play Predator! The great thing about this night game is you can play indoors or outdoors. You will need to adjust it according to your space. You have a leader hide somewhere within your boundaries. They have a stack of toothpicks or straws. The students are divided into teams and their job is to find the "predator." The important thing here is for students to find the predator with out the other team knowing it. Once a student has found the predator, the leader who is hiding gives that person a toothpick or straw. The student brings the toothpick back to homebase for their team to receive a point. Students are allowed to only turn in one toothpick at a time and the predator is only allowed to give one toothpick to each student at a time. Once a student turns in their toothpick, they can go back to the predator and receive another toothpick and so on. The game is over when the predator is out of toothpicks or the kids get bored! :) Another variation is to have several leaders hide at the same time. Have Fun!

Night Game Nite

Img_0146What a crazy night! 101 was shut down both ways so we were missing half our leaders and students, but I'm so glad we had enough to play our classic game of "Predator!" Ben was our first leader and man he hid so well, none of the jr. highers found him! Only one person found him and that was Kareem, shown in this picture. Kareem brought the lone toothpick for the guys! The next round we had 4 leaders hide and the girls won that round! Fun night had by all! Wasn't thrilled the 101 was still shut down when I left the church tonight. Had to go 5 miles out of my way to go less than a mile home!

Flag Poles, Tongues and Boys will be Boys

Christmas_2AP CHESTERTON, Ind. — Two fourth-grade boys mimicking a scene from the movie "A Christmas Story" wound up with their tongues stuck to a frozen flagpole.

Gavin Dempsey and James Alexander were serving on flag duty at Jackson Elementary School Friday morning, with the job of raising and lowering the school's flags. They decided to see if their tongues really would stick to the cold metal.

"I decided to try it because I thought all of the TV shows were lies, but turns out I was wrong," Gavin said.

Karen Alexander, James' mother , said her son told her he got the idea from the movie, which is based on stories about a boy growing up in the northwest Indiana community of Hammond in the 1940s.

"I can't believe he did it, but they learned their lesson," she said.

James said he plans to eat a lot of ice cream to help nurse his wound.

"When you're young, you're just messing around," he said.

Billie Dempsey, Gavin's mom, said a nurse called them to tell them the boys' tongues were bleeding.

"The nurse asked them, 'OK, who double-dog dared who?"' Billie Dempsey said, a reference to a phrase that a character in the movie used to dare another child to stick his tongue to the pole.

Off To Apple

Burlingame_vert101105With the break in the rain, I'm heading off to the apple store this morning. Our new Jr. High ipod that we got in December had a bad connection, so Apple is graciously replacing it for us. Gotta love Apple customer service.

Hume Lake Highlight Video

Hume lake puts together a highlight video every weekend! Here is our weekend. Lots of fun!

Quote of The Week

Subhead_quotesI haven't done a quote of the week for a while. My Jr. High Life Group was traveling to Krispy Kreme last night and of course everyone started talking about their favorite kind of music. Some of my girls love country! Of course I'm delighted by this discovery since I'm the biggest country music fan around! Just listen to my ringtone! Now I understand that country is not for everyone, but my mission in is life to convert people to Jesus and to Country Music! :) So I proceed to turn the radio to our local country station in which Jennifer, who is NOT a country music fan, replied, "I feel violated." Jennifer, one day, you will be singing with the rest of us the joy of country music! :)

Driving to Hume

Dsc01576_1This is a crazy weekend for me. We were short a driver so I ended up driving the high school kids to Hume, came home so I can teach on Sunday in Jr. High and then back to Hume until Monday. You might think I'm crazy, and I am, but what a fun ride up to Hume. I had all the sophomores and had a fun ride up. It's even better when you don't have to chain up! More importantly, you feel the excitement in the air. Our students couldn't wait to be at camp. They've been talking about it for weeks! After dropping everybody off, I had a nice and quiet 5 hour drive home. Five hours all to myself! So I got caught up on all my podcasts. I was finishing up our 20's pastors series on Phillippians. He was talking about generosity at the end of Phillippians 4 and it got me thinking about how generous our church is. I'm so thankful for their generosity. Their generosity enabled us to purchase a couple of new vans this time last year to take students to camp and all the other activities we do! You may not think that is a big deal, but it's huge. I've driven some pretty bad, unreliable, dump of a church van through the years. I'm thankful that we have these new vans that are comfy, safe and reliable. So thank you CPC for your generous spirit. You just helped 45 high school students get to winter camp safely.
