Quote of The Week

Subhead_quotesLast night we were playing a new game for Riot nite. All our leaders went and hid throughout the building and students were given one clue about each leader. The clues weren't where to find the leaders but were some kind of fun fact about each leader. As soon as students found out which leader went with each clue they were given a new clue about a different leader and they would go find that leader. My clue was that I was on the speech and debate team in college. One of the students in a group knew that and said, "Oh, that's Sandy," one of the other students in that group did not know that about me and said, "You mean Sandy's smart?" Thanks Trevor!

I LOVE Mondays

Pancakesck222326lI know most people hate Mondays! I LOVE them. IT's only out of selfish reasons! Monday is my day off. As I'm waking up, the sun is shining, there is not a cloud in the sky and I'm excited to do nothing but enjoy the weather after a tough day of teaching on Sunday! Sunday was fun. I taught on Ezra 9 on the cycle of sin and a godly response to sin and I taught in all three of our student ministries! I'm going to close the computer, go make some pancakes, get the meat out to defrost for tonight's dinner with the Melli's, and go chill! Have a great day.

UUGGHH!

Signgas_arm_leg_2The great part about today is I'm hanging out in Santa Cruz because it's an incredibly gorgeous day and right now it's 76 degrees. The bummer part is getting here! I own a 99 civic coupe. The reason I bought a small car in 1999 was to save on gas. I just paid over $45 for a tank of gas on a Honda Civic! There is something wrong with that! I guess I won't be hanging out in Santa Cruz too often this summer because of the gas prices!

What is the top selling album of all time?

We had this discussion in our worship meeting on Tuesday. Our teaching pastor thought the top-selling album was Carol King's Tapestry, our worship pastor and I though it was Michael Jackson's Thriller, Wiki tells us its an Eagles Greatest hits album. So which is it? I think it's this album and we are celebrating 25 years of it this week. Besides, everyone had the red, leather jacket and the group dance lives on!

OOOPPPSSS

Img_0287I recently dusted off my mountain bike to start riding again. Took it to REI for a tune-up and got one of those fancy new gel seats. Today I decided to take it our for a spin and check out some of the levees in Redwood Shores. My bike has never felt so smooth. For whatever reason my seat didn't get tightened enough, so while I was on a dirt path, I was checking out my seat and wasn't watching the road and before I knew it a big gust of wind blew me to the edge of the levee and before I knew it, I was flying down the side of the levee into the sticker bushes and for just a moment, I thought I was going to hit the smelly bay water! But thankfully the sticker bushes stopped me before I hit the water. I can't believe I didn't biff it! I guess my mountain biking skills aren't so rusty after all.

Crazy Friends

Img_1090So a bunch of my friends are training for the Wildflower Tri that happens in a few weekends. This was the run through before the big race. I drove over to Santa Cruz to meet up with friends and Darcie, Jenn and Nick all ran unto the 51 degree ocean to do their 500 yard swim! At least Darc and Jenn had wetsuits on, Nick I can't believe you did that swim with NO wetsuit! I was watching from the beach since there is NO way you are going to get me into that cold of water!

Alright Cara, I give.....

Dsc02755So I don't usually do these, but I'll play this time! I'm supposed to write 6 random things about myself that people might not know and then tag three bloggers to link back too! So Cara, here ya go!

1. My car has a name, so do our church vans for that matter. My naming of vehicles comes from a long line of tradition on the Hughes male side. Although I have to say that the men in my family aren't real creative with their car names, they've all stuck to "Ol Liz." I can remember my dad calling every family car we had "Ol Liz." My car's name is "Green Lighting."

2. I love all things Apple. I've been a fan of apple since I bought my first SE. My roomie thinks I'm addicted to my macbook pro and my iphone and says I can' live without "big mac" or "little mac."

3. I would rather sit at the beach or poolside than anywhere else!

4. The barrista's at Starbucks know me by name in 5 different Starbucks locations. I consider going to my local Starbucks a ministry opportunity each morning. My friends call it a justification!

5. I secretly want to be a contestant on "Dancing With The Stars." SSSHHHHH, don't tell anyone! Can't you just see me in a sequencey dress! Don't leave any comments about this one!

6. A good chunk of my life is filled with students and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So I tag Jenn, Courtney, Anne-Marie.

Meet Me In St. Louis

Dsc03579Last night I headed down to the Kings Academy to see a bunch of our students in the play, "Meet Me In St. Louis." Kings always does a fantastic job with their drama department and I thought the students did a fantastic job performing! It was so much fun watching Hannah and Sarah, who have been a part of the drama program since Jr. High, take lead roles! You girls did awesome. Two of our Jr. Highers were in the play as well! Isabella and Kate were wonderful! I can't forget the tech crew either because another one of our Jr. Highers, Nathaniel, did a fabulous job with lighting! I wish I had pictures with all of you last night, but only got one! :(
