The Big 4-0 Today

IMG_2901 IMG_2902 Well, today I turn 40! To be honest, I've been so busy that I didn't realize I was turning 40 until a couple of months ago!  It's kinda funny, I'm not really nervous about turning 40!  I haven't rushed out to get anti-aging cream!  Although I wouldn't mind rushing out and getting one of these for my supposed mid-life crisis!  I do know, I've learned a lot over these 40 years and I'm so thankful that God lets me do youth ministry.  I hope I get to be 80 years old and continue being a part of youth ministry!  I can just see myself in front of Jr. Highers when I'm 80, whacking them with my walker! The pic is my mom and me.  I think I'm a month old!

Birthday Bash!

DSC03149 So on Tuesday I turn the Big 4-0!  A friend of mine threw me a big bash today!  Of course, it turned out to be the hottest day of the summer so far!  We were sweatin' in 100 degree temps!  That is hot for the Peninsula.  But it was so much fun!  It was fun to see all the folks stop buy throughout the afternoon and eat some yummy food, especially the BBQ!  I felt very spoiled!  Thanks to all of you who helped put the party on. I had a great time spending time with you!  After the party, I jumped in the pool and then sat pool side reading all my birthday cards!

Happy Fathers Day

DSC03058 Today is our "move up" day in our student ministry so I went and celebrated fathers day with my dad last weekend in Washington!  It was a really fun weekend teaching my dad how to use a mac.  He's turned from the darkside!  (pc user)  He and Karen took me out for my big 4-0!  We went and had brunch on the Columbia Gorge in an old style paddle boat!  It was really cool and the weather was awesome!  So Happy Fathers Day Dad!  I love you!

Some Falls I Saw on Vacation

DSC03066 While driving on the Columbia the other day, we drove past several waterfalls.  I convinced my dad to stop so I could take some pics!

Remembering

IMG_1954 Last Christmas my Aunt Marilyn had sent me a box of old family pictures.  In that box were a few of my Grandpa Hughes.  He served as a Seabee's in World War II.  So on this Memorial Day I thought I'd write just a few words about him.  The picture posted is when he was overseas somewhere in the Pacific Islands.  He was a gentle, strong man who loved his country and his family!  Like many men from his generation, he didn't talk much about the war.  I couldn't even get him to tell me a story or two for a class project.  It wasn't until he passed away, that I learned he served with distinction and had received many medals for his bravery.  So thank you to all the men and women who have fought for our great nation so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let it Snow

Img_9733I'm not feeling so great and I'm bummed because I was hoping to go skiing with my nieces and nephew. Hopefully I'm feeling better so I can sled with them tomorrow. Instead, I had the whole cabin to myself and watched the beautiful snow falling!

A Domestic Goddess?

Img_0086Img_0088In no way do I claim to be a domestic goddess, but I found this cute snowman mold for pancakes and I have no idea how these things work. My poor snowman pancakes didn't turn out so well! I wish these molds came with instructions!

Little Lamb Ministries

LittlelamblogoYesterday afternoon I was invited to attend the retirement party for Miss Marilyn at Little Lamb Preschool. It was such a sweet time together. Little Lamb is a ministry at Bridges Community Church that was started by my mom's best friend who was obedient to God's call. After 17 years directing Little Lamb Pre-school and day care, Miss Marilyn is retiring! I can remember Marilyn and my mom praying for this ministry long before it started. I can remember the plans, schooling, problem solving amazing God moments and all the folks who lent their time and talents because one woman followed God's call. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces and hear about the stories of how God touched the lives of many families because one woman was faithful to her savior. Knowing Marilyn, she wouldn't take any credit for this ministry that has been such an influence to so many families in Fremont, but credit is due to a faithful follower of Jesus! So Miss Marilyn, as you retire from Little Lamb, I pray for your future and what God has in store for you and Mr. B in the coming years. Thanks for your faithfulness!
