Our high school student leave for the DR today! They will be serving along side GO Ministries. The team has worked very hard to raise funds. Thanks to all those who have given. Keep them in your prayers as the go and serve the people of the DR and our Lord.
I'm breathing a sigh of relief as the two weeks of craziness are over. I have a love/hate relationship with the month of May! I love it because summer is coming! I hate it because I feel my life is not my own! The ministry school year is over and our summer program starts in two weeks. High school graduations and grad parties are over, Jr. High graduations start on Tuesday! This was our largest senior class we have had, and it sure was fun to see this class graduate! I'm so excited to see where God will take them. It was a bittersweet good-bye to our 8th graders! This was one of those really special classes. All awesome kids who have been such leaders in our ministry, who love the Lord and one of the few classes who really cared about the younger kids in our ministry. I will miss them in our Jr. High Ministry but look forward to see how they will shape our high school ministry. In all the craziness, our summer intern also started. I love having are summer interns around. This is our second summer having interns. I'm looking forward to spending time with them and doing ministry with them. We've got a fun week planned with them as we leave on Thursday for Mammoth Base Camp, to go check out this ministry. Four days of mt. biking, rock climbing, hiking and adventure!
Usually around Christmas time I click through all my blog posts for the year to see what has happened as well as choose 11 of my favorite posts! Here they are:
A couple of weeks ago I went to see a couple of our seniors in the play Pride and Prejudice. I've been watching these girls in theatre since they were in Jr. High. I had to smile thinking back to when they were in Jr. High and hear them talk about how "only the Seniors got leads." Here they are, Seniors and they both had leads! So great job Hannah and Sarah! You both were amazing on stage!
I have some exciting news to announce! After three years of searching for a high school pastor, we have hired one! Rob McIlvoy will be serving as our high school pastor starting August 22. We are very excited to have Rob join not only our CPC Staff but also our Student Ministry Staff. Many of you know that Rob served at CPC as our high school pastor from 1993-1999. After that, he and his wife Cathy moved their family to Germany to serve at Black Forrest Academy. They moved back to the Bay Area about four years ago, where Rob served as the Area Director for Young Life on the mid-peninsula. We are very excited to have Rob fill this role with his experience and expertise. I look forward to seeing what God will do through Rob as he leads our High School Ministry Team. WooooHoooooo!
This fantastic group of high school leaders accompanied our high school students to summer camp at Hume Lake, San Diego. You might think, summer camp in San Diego, that sounds like a vacation! Trust me, going to camp with 30 high school students is no vacation! Fun yes, vacation no! These adults invest a lot of time into our students over the week through play, prayer, dodgeball, mohawks, deep conversations and food. Many of them take a weeks vacation with or without pay to hang and develop relationships with our high school students! So when you see them in the halls, make sure to thank them! Thanks for all your hard work and sleepless nights Ben, Kristin, Darcie, Sarah, Justin, Anthony, Jon, and Victor! You all are awesome!
