High School Winter Camp Highlights

Our High School Ministry went to Hume Lake Winter Camp last weekend and it looks like they had a blast. Thanks to all our high school leaders who went on this trip! You all are awesome to give up your weekend to impact the life of a high school student for the Kingdom! Our High School Pastor is getting his technology game on and did this highlight video!

Driving to Hume

This is a crazy weekend for me. We were short a driver so I ended up driving the high school kids to Hume, came home so I can teach on Sunday in Jr. High and then back to Hume until Monday. You might think I'm crazy, and I am, but what a fun ride up to Hume. I had all the sophomores and had a fun ride up. It's even better when you don't have to chain up! More importantly, you feel the excitement in the air. Our students couldn't wait to be at camp. They've been talking about it for weeks! After dropping everybody off, I had a nice and quiet 5 hour drive home. Five hours all to myself! So I got caught up on all my podcasts. I was finishing up our 20's pastors series on Phillippians. He was talking about generosity at the end of Phillippians 4 and it got me thinking about how generous our church is. I'm so thankful for their generosity. Their generosity enabled us to purchase a couple of new vans this time last year to take students to camp and all the other activities we do! You may not think that is a big deal, but it's huge. I've driven some pretty bad, unreliable, dump of a church van through the years. I'm thankful that we have these new vans that are comfy, safe and reliable. So thank you CPC for your generous spirit. You just helped 45 high school students get to winter camp safely.

Today, I'm off with the high schoolers to Hume Lake! Great camp, long drive! Should be a great weekend and the kids are super excited!

A Record Breaking Day at Hume

It’s been an exciting day today! I woke up this morning to frozen water pipes in my cabin. And yes, I kept the water running all night! So I guess that tells you how cold it is up here! I hope I have water when I get back tonight. After breakfast and chapel the activities began. Our guys played in the broom hockey tournament. How about this for a team name, “no license, no registration.” Unfortunately, they didn’t make it out of the first round, but they sure played tough! It was a shining moment to watch all our students cheering on our guys!

After lunch everyone hit the tubing run! This winter Hume Lake’s tubing record has ben 55 people at one time going down the tube run. Well, this afternoon that record was broken! With the help of six other churches, 65 students and leaders worked together to all come down the tubing run at once! A bunch of our students joined in the fun. The picture tells the story!

After hours on the tube run it was time to go get something hot to drink! So off to Hume N Beans for coffee, cards and chillin in a warm room!

It’s been a good weekend, God has been moving in many of the hearts of our students. It’s been a privilege to watch and listen and have the opportunity to challenge our students in their faith. Check out day 2 pictures!

Tomorrow we head home. I hope you have enjoyed staying in touch with us while we’ve been at camp. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers! It was a fun surprise to pull off a blog at camp!

What a Team

Can I say, we have an awesome team of adult leaders! We are still at Hume Lake and I’ve been so impressed with out leaders and how they care about these high school students. Each of them brings something special that just adds to our leadership team. Our leaders this weekend have spent countless hours with students laughing, praying, caring, crying, sharing, supporting and listening.
Please take some time to thank them for loving high school students into the kingdom of God!

Hume Lake In All It's Glory

After getting the van unstuck this morning, I had a few minutes to take in the beauty and stillness of Hume Lake.
Covered in a fresh blanket of new snow it was so awesome to take a few minutes to bask in God’s glorious creation. I sat and prayed for our students that they would meet God in a new and fresh way during our time here.

After chapel this morning, the day was spent tubbing, snowboarding, jumping off the Screamer and drinking some nice warm coffee and hanging out with students at Hume N Beans! All in all a great day! It’s off to dinner! Check out some of our pics from the first day!

Driving to Hume

I’m sooooo excited that Hume has wireless! I thought it would be cool to blog from camp and let you know what we’ve been up too!
We drove today to Hume Lake for our high school winter camp! The forecast called for clear skies. Just as we started our ascent to Hume, snow started falling at 2,000 feet. Needless to say, we were a little surprised! With chains in hand, we chained up all three vans and as we were chaining up, we caught this beautiful shot! It was so weird to move from clear, blue sky to snow and clouds in a matter of minutes. Our drive was a little crazy. Someone decided not to carry chains and head down the hill and hence spun out. An ambulance who was also coming down the hill tried to avoid the spin out and also spun out and ran into a ditch, so hence they closed the road to help these two vehicles. The cool thing is that they closed the road shortly after we got there and we were the first to head up the road behind the snowplow! That was a total God thing! The bummer part was sitting on the road for two hours waiting for them to clear the spin out. It took us four hours from where we were to get to Hume. Normally it would take an hour and a half! We had no cell phone reception, so I am sorry if we worried some of you parents since we didn’t get here to update the hotline when we were supposed too! As we pulled into Hume, we learned that half the camp were in their vehicles behind us! Hume held dinner for us and then we headed to chapel to hear the band Moi and our speaker! After that, we got all the students settled in their cabins. I had my own little adventure after getting the kids settled. I was trying to find my cabin at about 12:30 am. Let’s just say that the van got stuck in the middle of the road! Thankfully I didn’t have students with me. So I hoofed it up the road to my cabin. Thanks to the guys at Hume Lake Maintenance for helping me get the van unstuck this morning! You were awesome! In all the craziness of getting here, God’s protective hand was all over us.
