Person of the Week

Dsc02583This weeks person of the week is someone I met on our Jr. High Summer Camp trip. His name is Bud. Bud was one of our river rafting guides. What amazed me about Bud is that he is 72 years old, loves Jr. High kids and still river rafts. Bud got worked on the river on our trip, falling out of the boat 3 times! I hope when I'm 72, I still love Jr. High kids and can still river raft! Here is a picture of Bud with all our kids!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 10

Dsc02625After filling our selves with ice cream, we took this remote road to a place called Shacklford Falls. WOW. It was beautiful! You can check out some pictures here! We spent the afternoon jumping into the falls as well as using the falls as a natural water slide. The water was so cold that it took you breath away when you jumped in! Over all it was a great week with lots of fun adventures playing in God's creation! Again, thanks to our leaders for all the help and hard work!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 9

Dsc02584The last day of camp we went out to a town called Etna where we got to experience a real, old time, soda fountain! Of course we had to get some ice cream! The boys in this picture got the "Marvelous Marble Mountian."

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 8

Dsc02582_2The last day of camp was spent leaving the river, going back to Kidder Creek and then off to do a day trip in Etna as Shackleford Falls. As we arrived back at Kidder, I'm convinced that all Jr. High boys should have one year of school in the outdoors. The boys found the biggest sticks possible, proceeded to tie a pair of boxers to the end of one stick and march around camp like soliders. The best is when they acted out the scene from "Flags of our Fathers."

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 7

Dsc02565The rest of day 3 was spent jumping off more rocks as well as turning our boats upside down and using them as a water slide. Now that was a blast!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 6

Dsc02543Dsc02554Dsc02559Day 3 was spent on the river as well. We were anticipating some of our largest rapids to raft! The big one though was "Dragon's Tooth." The guides put the fear of God into us for this rapid! We stopped for a moment to scout the rapid. All of us girls stayed in the boat while the boys scouted. Let's say all the Jr. High Boys came back with scared looks, to be honest, they were ghastly! The girls started to get worried. That's when I rallied the troops. I said, "Girls, lets show these boys how it's done!" They got all excited, "Go girl power!" As we approached to rapid emotions were high and we paddled hard! I looked around, we were all still in the boat! Amazing! Now it was our turn to watch the boys! Boat number one made it through, though they lost their guide! Boys boat number 2 didn't fare as well! They entered the rapid at the wrong angle and lost everyone in the boat except one boy, who held on for dear life in the middle of his boat wondering what to do now that he was alone in the boat going through a rapid! Thankfully, all the boys were fine!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 5

0486990r102812aDay 2 ended with us swimming across the river to expierence natural whirlpools. The way the water flows the kids could swim to the whilpool, get caught in it and go for a ride! All in all a great day!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 4

Day 2: Later in the afternoon we all had the opportunity to jump off a 30 foot rock as well as swim across the river to be whirled around in a natural whirlpool! The rock jump was thrilling. We had the opportunity to jump off at 10 foot, 20 foot or 30 foot rock! Miles, who we now call Mr. Daredevil, climbed right up to the top of the 30 foot rock and jumped right off!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 3

0486992r104420a_20486990r104822aDay 2 was full of fun and excitement. We left directly from our campsite and were faced with some easy rapids right off the bat. As soon as we got into some calm waters, the water fights started. We had two boats of boys and one boat of girls. One thing that was made clear, do not lose your bucket! No bucket, defenseless! Now, I've ensued my share of river rafting water fights, but my girls needed a little help holding onto their buckets! At one point we lost both of our buckets and had to team up with one of the boys boats to participate in a stratigic attack to get our buckets back! Thanks Jeremy!

Jr. High Summer Camp Part 2

Dsc02580_3Day One: It was a very long drive from Foster City to a place called Happy Camp. You read it right, Happy Camp, Ca. As soon as we entered Happy Camp, we saw big foot statues, and everything was named after big foot. Was there a big foot sighting there? We unpacked, met our guides, messed around and had our evening program.
