Remembering

IMG_1954 Last Christmas my Aunt Marilyn had sent me a box of old family pictures.  In that box were a few of my Grandpa Hughes.  He served as a Seabee's in World War II.  So on this Memorial Day I thought I'd write just a few words about him.  The picture posted is when he was overseas somewhere in the Pacific Islands.  He was a gentle, strong man who loved his country and his family!  Like many men from his generation, he didn't talk much about the war.  I couldn't even get him to tell me a story or two for a class project.  It wasn't until he passed away, that I learned he served with distinction and had received many medals for his bravery.  So thank you to all the men and women who have fought for our great nation so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Person of the Week

Img_9162I haven't honored a person of the week since I left on sabbatical which was back in July. I wanted to take a moment to honor one of our jr. high students. Two weekends ago I moved from my little cottage to a spacious town house and one of our jr. high boys came over to help me move. I wanted to thank Nathaniel and tell you a little bit about this young man. I've know Nathaniel for a long time now and I don't think I've ever met a student this young with such a servants heart. His parents are wonderful servants too, and they have tried to instill that in their children. But here is a young man hungry to serve God and people. Whatever the task, Nathaniel is willing to help whether it's serving the poor, moving boxes and furniture, lending a helping hand with the set crew at his school or working in the sound booth at church, Nathaniel is there eager to serve. Nathaniel, God has gifted you with a wonderful spiritual gift and as your pastor, it's so exciting to watch you use the gift God has given you! Thanks for your wonderful heart and your service to the body at CPC! Keep up the great work my friend.

Design Matters

MessyI've been designing all day! Between the new buzzard blog header and all the youth stuff that is going out in next weeks mailing, I'm on a role! I'm most proud of the new design for our brochure and I didn't even do it! We hired another admin for childrens and student ministry this last year and her design skills kick booty! So Lisa, thanks for such a great job on the cover design! It's AWESOME! I can't wait to put this graphic up on the big screens and the bulletin board! Great job! This is my favorite brochure yet!

I Wanna Do That!

Dsc02734So while I was at Bowditch yesterday morning. I saw these guys ridding these, for a lack of a better term, mini tanks. They were climbing over the rocks on the levee. I thought how cool and how fun are those toys. So I crossed the street and walked on the levee to see what they were doing. It was low tide and these guys were riding around in the mud, having a good time. Come to find out, they were mesquitoe abbatement! Don't really want their job, but would love to go mudding in the mini tanks!

Person of the Week

Dsc02583This weeks person of the week is someone I met on our Jr. High Summer Camp trip. His name is Bud. Bud was one of our river rafting guides. What amazed me about Bud is that he is 72 years old, loves Jr. High kids and still river rafts. Bud got worked on the river on our trip, falling out of the boat 3 times! I hope when I'm 72, I still love Jr. High kids and can still river raft! Here is a picture of Bud with all our kids!

Birthday Girl!

Img_8401So I snuck onto Sandy's computer to do a blog for her. Shhhhh! She doesn't know it yet. Today is a very special day for one of my dearest friends. Today is....  Cassandra April Hughes's Birthday! I felt that she should not blog on her special day but that a friend should blog for her. I think that Sandy should all so be the person on the week since she did not have one this week. I have been blessed getting to work with her for the past five years at CPC... She is such a loyal, sacrificial, caring and giving person and I know that most everyone that knows Sandy would agree with me. So Happy Birthday Sandy, you are officially the person of the week. Keep up the good work with all the students you work with. You are a true follower of Jesus Christ and thank you for being such a great example to gleen from, learn from and most especially get to laugh with... Have a great Birthday!! Your friend Darcie

Person of the Week

This weeks person of the week is the Class of 2007. Yes, there are a lot of people to honor. I've been to a couple of high school graduations in the last couple of days. It's been fun seeing our students finish their high school career. It's also been fun to see and feel all of the excitement in the air as student look to their future! So class of 2007, you are in my prayers and my prayer for you is to continue to follow after Jesus. Here are a few pics from the grads. Img_1265Img_1298_2Img_1302Img_1306Img_1309Dsc02349
