Big Waves

On Saturday a friend and I traveled out to Half Moon Bay to try to catch the Mavericks Surf Competition. We got a late start, so I wasn't sure if we would actually get to see any surfing. As we traveled over the hill we kept hearing the reports of surf warnings and "rouge" waves that were taking people out on the sea walls. Traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. By the time we found a parking spot we started the long walk. My friend and I had no idea where we were supposed to go. Neither of us had been to Mavericks. As we stopped to ask directions, the office told us it was about a 40 minute walk and the competition was to be over in an hour. My friend and I were bummed. We didn't want to walk all the way out there just to walk back! So we decided to to drive up Highway 1 and see if we could catch any "rouge" waves farther up the coast. We stopped near Montera and saw the most amazing waves I had ever seen. The pictures don't do it justice!
