My First Blogging Award?!?

Premio+arte+y+pico My blogging friend Courtney just nominated my blog for the Arte Y Pico Award!?! Here is what she said, "The next Arte Y Pico Award goes to Sandy. She is a really fun youth worker and I steal a lot of ideas for games for youth group from her - even though they sometimes get shot down (ahhhm squid bowling)!"  So I'm supposed to nominate 5 blogs because I'm not supposed to hold onto this award!  I'm going to have to get back to the nominations later this week!  I have to say how honored I am to have a trophy like this on my cybershelf!

My 500th Post!

Fireworks_500th-post I can't believe I've hit my 500th post.  The funny thing is, I didn't think I'd make it to 500.  I thought I'd try this blogging thing and it turns out I love writing a daily post.  Unlike a lot of bloggers I read, I don't have a long list of blogging ideas.  I kind of fly by the seat of my pants when I blog, which is unlike everything else I do.  For those of you who know me personally, you know I'm a planner. Blogging has been a great unplanned outlet for me. I like to write about the everyday, the things I've watched God do in our Student Ministry and in the lives of our students and leaders, the funny things teenagers do, the funny things that happen to me, and whatever else might be an interesting read. One of the books I read before I started blogging was The Blogging Church. It's a great book of what to and not to do as a blogger and it's helped me stay out of blogging trouble.  So many people bash other people and ministries on their blog and I've tried to avoid that.  I hope that you've been encouraged and have had a good laugh when you read this blog. Thanks for taking the time to read Sandy's Sayings! Here's to the next 500 posts!  I think I'll go celebrate with a Grande, No-Whip Mocha Frap!

Alright Cara, I give.....

Dsc02755So I don't usually do these, but I'll play this time! I'm supposed to write 6 random things about myself that people might not know and then tag three bloggers to link back too! So Cara, here ya go!

1. My car has a name, so do our church vans for that matter. My naming of vehicles comes from a long line of tradition on the Hughes male side. Although I have to say that the men in my family aren't real creative with their car names, they've all stuck to "Ol Liz." I can remember my dad calling every family car we had "Ol Liz." My car's name is "Green Lighting."

2. I love all things Apple. I've been a fan of apple since I bought my first SE. My roomie thinks I'm addicted to my macbook pro and my iphone and says I can' live without "big mac" or "little mac."

3. I would rather sit at the beach or poolside than anywhere else!

4. The barrista's at Starbucks know me by name in 5 different Starbucks locations. I consider going to my local Starbucks a ministry opportunity each morning. My friends call it a justification!

5. I secretly want to be a contestant on "Dancing With The Stars." SSSHHHHH, don't tell anyone! Can't you just see me in a sequencey dress! Don't leave any comments about this one!

6. A good chunk of my life is filled with students and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So I tag Jenn, Courtney, Anne-Marie.

Blogging for almost a year

KeyboardI'm coming up on almost one year of blogging. December 26 will make it a year. I tried this blogging thing out to communicate about our youth ministry and what we were up too and the funny things that happen in our ministry and for me it has turned into more than that. I've had great time blogging and have learned a lot about what goes into blogging. It's been fun sharing a part of my life with all of you and meeting new folks who read this blog. I really had no clue if anyone would read it but some of my most loyal friends! It's a busy week for me, so I hope to go back and take a look at some of my favorite posts this year, but would love to hear what some of your favorite posts were.

Blogging an Addiction?

I'm about 7 months into having a blog. I really have fun blogging. I also read about 20 blogs each day through an RSS feed so I can read them in about 10 minutes. I was reading Brian Berry's Blog, The Overflow the other night and he had a post about blogging addictions along with a little test. I guess I'm a little more addicted to blogging than I thought! 68%How Addicted to Blogging Are You?
