Freshmen Small Group

Tonight I got to co-lead a high school girls small group. What a great group of girls. I'm looking forward to the next six weeks with these girls. I think small groups are such an integral part of high school ministry and one of the best things we've got going. I look forward to hanging out with these girls and challenging them in their faith.

Baptism

As Easter approaches, our church usually has an outdoor baptism after the last Easter service. It's really cool because so much of the body sticks around to watch and support all the people who get baptized. Each time we offer a baptism we announce it to the students in the student ministry. We have a short class so they know what baptism is about, the have a little homework and then our staff and myself meet with all of them individually. It's a fun process to see where students are at and if they feel ready to be baptized. I'm excited about our students who want to get baptized and can't wait to hear their faith stories and what compells them to get baptized.

Teaching

Over the last few months I've had the opportunity to teach in all three of our youth ministries, The Edge, Jr. High and High School. Right now we are all going through the Gospel of Mark. The fun and challenging part as a teacher is to teach the same passage to three very different age groups. We recently just tackled the topic of divorce and remarriage in Mark 10:1-12. Trying to teach that to 5th and 6th grade students is very different from teaching it to high school students. I've loved the challenge and learning the skills to teach to such a wide variety of age groups.

Life Group Happenings

Our Jr. High Life Groups have been studying the fruit of the spirit. Once a month, the Life Groups go and do something together as a group. After hearing and studying the "kindness" and "goodness" fruit, April and Darcie's group decided to practice what they learned by making dinner for the group Liz and I lead. It was an awesome dinner! Thanks girls!

Person of the Week

This weeks person of the week is Danyel Garzona. Danyel is one of our Edge leaders. She has faithfully served our 5th and 6th graders for the past two years. There are several things I love about Danyel. She has such a passion for our Edger's and for them to know and love God and His Word. She has a great sense of humor. She continues to see students outside of The Edge element and writes them encouraging notes on a consistent basis. Her love and care for students is contagious and I'm so glad I get to minister with her to our students! Keep up the wonderful work Danyel!
